Capturing the nature of the sublime and the sublime in nature

Over the last six months, we've been working with The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York designing, recording and producing the audio companion to its most recent exhibition, Caspar David Friedrich: The Soul of Nature.

Working closely with the Met's team and the exhibition's curators, Alison Hokanson and Joanna Sheers Seidenstein, we moved beyond the simple didactics of a standard audio guide to build a sonic experience of voices and music to carry you into the themes of the show and Friedrich's ouvré.

We had the pleasure of interviewing an array of thinkers and creatives including author and historian Andrea Wulf, poet Marie Howe, artist Julius Bismarck, writer and mountain walker Kim Stanley Robinson, death doula and author Alua Arthur, and Lutheran pastor and theologian Jordan B Cooper.

We also had the great privilege in commissioning renowned sound artist Martyn Stewart to create a soundscape for the exhibition.

LISTEN HERE to the audio companion and you can also read The New Yorker's recent article on Caspar David Friedrich and the New York Times' review of the exhibition or/and Alex Greenberger's thoughts over at ARTNews.
